Cardio Tennis offered now at LTA

7/18/08

Cardio Tennis is a fun way to get a great workout while playing tennis. It’s a group activity that includes a short 5-10 minute warm up phase, a 30-50 minute workout phase, and a 5-10 minute cool down phase. The 30-50 minute workout phase includes mostly fast - paced drills where the Pro feeds balls to players based on their ability and fitness level. A great cardiovascular workout involves getting your heart rate in your zone which is 65% to 85% of your maximum heart rate (MHR) for 30 minutes.

Benefits of Cardio Tennis:

Resting heart rate Lowers, decrease in body fat, blood pressure decreases, bones become stronger, amount of HDL cholesterol decreases, self confidence improves, metabolism of sugar improves.

New Obstacle Course Now Open for Training

5/08/08

We have built a 150 yard obstacle course.  This course was built from the ground up and is designed for the highest level of training. The course is actually built to assist a team of fitness athletes that are training to compete in a World Fitness competition that is held in Las Vegas in July of each year.  Our team of athletes is already gathering every Saturday to hit the course and work on improving their times. Although the course seems like a competition in itself, these athletes also have several other obstacles to complete in the competition.  They have several fitness skills (including bench pressing 60% of their body weight as many times as they can, shuttle run and box jumps), fitness routines and a physic round.

The 150 yard Obstacle course consists of a 10 foot wall, football grid, incline and decline monkey bars, balance beam, 15 foot cargo net, hurdles, steeple jump, as well as an over and under bar.  We will be extending this training to ALL members of the Lakes.  We are very excited to offer both training camps and competitions.  Please contact Chance Williams with questions or inquiries regarding obstacle course training and group workouts.

Painter Wins $50,000 Challenger Pre-Qualifier

1/21/08

Andrew Painter won the Texas Challenger Singles Tournament at T Bar M Racquet Club Sunday, defeating Scott Eddins 6-2, 6-2.

Painter, a professional who is currently a teaching pro at The Lakes Tennis Academy in Frisco, was seeded #3 in the 26-player tournament. He used a solid, all-around game which included many successful trips to the net to gain a position in next weekend’s qualifying rounds of the 10th Annual AT&T Challenger of Dallas scheduled for January 28-February 2 at T Bar M.

Using an array of deep service returns and penetrating grounds strokes, “Paints” broke Eddins’ serve in the fourth and eighth games in the first set and in the second and eighth games in the second. Eddins held two break points in the seventh game of the second set, but Painter’s big serve prevailed. Eddins saved two match points in the final game, but Painter closed out the match by winning the final two points.

Eddins rallied to upset fifth-seeded Ned Boone 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals, while Painter earned a spot in the finals with a 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-3 victory over seventh-seeded Daniel Omana.
