Dena CoeJunior Class DirectorDena has been involved in tennis her whole life either as a player, coach, or a tennis mom. She grew up in the hill county of Texas in a small rural ranching community, Mason,Tx. Although the town was small , tennis was and still is a huge daily staple to most who live there.
Dena won three state championships in high school, two in doubles and one in singles. Her team also captured the team titles several years. Being from a small town allowed her to also participate in cheerleading, basketball, and track in high school. She received All American cheerleading award from NCA, was an all region basketball player and went to Regionals in track. Dena was a ranked junior in Texas while only playing tennis seasonal growing up. She went to Odessa College on a full tennis scholarship where she was An All American. Her team captured the National Runner Up Title both years she was on the team at Odessa College. She was a finalist in her singles flight and doubles semi finalist at the national tournaments. After Odessa College, she went on to play tennis at The University of North Texas. She helped lead the women’s team to the very first conference woman tennis title at North Texas in 1990 in the Southland Conference and was All Conference for two years. Upon graduating with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a math endorsement, she taught middle school math and coached the tennis team for six years. After having children and stepping back from teaching to raise her family, tennis became an even bigger part of her life as she became a tennis mom to four children. Dena continued to learn and study the game as coaching was always a passion. In 2015 she started coaching tennis in Mason, where she worked with players ages 4 -80 years. Dena is a certified USPTA and Net Generation Professional. She has a passion for developing players and is continually striving to improve on her coaching and become better educated so she can coach to the best of her ability. It is her goal to developed a player and help them have a lifetime of love for the game of tennis. Currently, Dena is coaching many adult drills, and she also leads the Academy 1,2,3&4 children and junior after school classes.
